Let the good times roll: HFB opens 2013 registration
The fitness industry has been invading Las Vegas for years. Last year’s Health & Fitness Business Expo took over the Sands, but this September the trade show will bring its buff bodies and brand-new equipment to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The show recently opened registration for attendees. Registration is free to retailers who sign up before August 14. Between August 15 and September 17 registration costs $25, and after September 17 it costs $50. more

Stationary Bikes
One of the biggest superstars in the stationary bike category was FitWet’s Jet Bike, which combined the stationary cycle workout with a Jacuzzi experience. The MSRPs on the FitWet products aren’t set yet, but bank on them being on the more expensive end of the spectrum because the products are geared more toward clubs, gyms and rehabilitation facilities. Numbers Across the Board
That’s no coincidence. Though Nielsen Expositions hasn’t broken out HFB-specific numbers, the numbers across the board for Interbike and HFB are up. The crew worked hard to make sure HFB was well attended and opened up sections of the basement to make sure the HFB, the café and the downstairs Interbike attendees were more connected. More

Light Commercial Market Growth
Other retailers are starting to see things that way, too. This year, organizers of the Health and Fitness Business Expo held in Las Vegas in September promoted the event as showcasing light commercial products in addition to home products. The show didn’t disappoint. Organizers explained to SNEWS the reason for the increased focus on light commercial is that the specialty industry is headed in that direction. More

HFB Sneak Peek
What’s different about Health & Fitness Business this year?

A few weeks ago we announced the addition of light commercial products to the HFB Expo. This is a growing segment, yet no trade show has made a combined retail/light commercial expo its focus. We believe that manufacturers will benefit from increased activity with buyers of light commercial, and attendees will now be able to see retail and light commercial at one show. Plus more retailers do business in both channels these days so the combination will serve them well. And we will attract a new sub-group of attendees. More

HFB Products to Check Out
“We’ve had a lot of requests from customers over the year to bring a bar/adapter back into the line,” explained Lance Goodemann of PowerBlock. The company also brings its PowerStation storage system for home fitness that has the capacity to store any PowerBlock products, plus accesstories like rollers, weighted vests and jump ropes. Plus, there is an optional attachment for a flatscreen TV available. More

Grass Roots Marketing
Though it’s not kittens and lollipops, there are ways to promote your stores that are easy on the pocketbook. Three retailers gave insight on what their most successful grass roots marketing campaigns are and some of the best ideas include focusing on social media, doing lots of nonprofit work, sponsoring research to offer to media, writing a column for a local paper and offering social and educational events at your stores. Good Vibe Cool Stuff
One could feel the energy as soon as they walked into the Health & Fitness Business Expo taking place in Las Vegas this week. Most exhibitors and attendees told SNEWS the show had a more postive and bigger vibe than previous years. More

Light Commercial
Light commercial equipment always has played a small part of the show, but it’s now included officially following requests from several manufacturers.

“We had spoken to a few of our top manufacturers, for instance Ken Carpenter at SportsArt, and they’d asked for us to do something like this,” HFB Senior Account Executive Brian McKavic said. More
