WALKING is the Rodney Dangerfield of the fitness world: It gets no respect.
Consider walking shoes, historically the clunky, unattractive stepsiblings of running shoes. But walking is the top fitness activity in the United States, with more than 89 million Americans taking part, according to the National Sporting Goods Association.
