Can employers put you on a diet? No, but they can make it more expensive to be fat. New ways companies are monitoring employee health habits and rewarding those who shape up.
In their upcoming book "Nudge," authors Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein describe a bet that two economists made during graduate school after trying and failing to lose weight on their own. The pair signed a contract, each pledging to pay the other a substantial amount of money if he didn't lose 30 pounds in nine months. The bet worked.
